Situated in the heart of Lyon, Le Parc de la Tête d’Or is an urban oasis of 117 hectares. The entire site is dedicated to leisure and to human renewal through encounters with nature. On any given day, it is filled with school children playing, lovers strolling, elders reading, and people enjoying one another and the lush plantings. There are three gardens dedicated to the cultivation of roses. a large botanical garden with beautiful glass houses and 16000 species of plants, a zoo with lemurs, giraffes, flamingos and even a little train, carousel and self-propelled boats in a large lake.
It is my favorite place in Lyon, where I spend two months each year. I go repeatedly with my pinhole camera and am entranced with its beauty and diversity. I tend to focus on the rose gardens and the Le Jardin de Botanique. The pinhole camera renders the images in soft focus and confers a sense of longing.
